FDC Philadelphia also known as Philadelphia Federal Detention Center is an Administrative Security federal prison located at 700 Arch Street Philadelphia, Pennsylvania operated by the Northeast Region of the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), a division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Philadelphia FDC houses 977 male and female federal inmates sentenced and charged with Federal Crimes in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Housing – There are three types of housing units at FDC Philadelphia. Designated and pre-trial/holdover female inmates are housed on 3 South.
All male inmates are housed from the 3rd floor through the 7th floor. T
here is also a Special Housing Unit (SHU) on the 8th.
Inmates may be housed in (SHU) when staff deems it necessary, based on security concerns or other reasons documented in the Program Statement on Inmate Discipline and Special Housing Units.
Religious Services – Chaplains are available to assist inmates in religious practices and make weekly visits to housing units.
A schedule of available religious activities is posted on the electronic bulletin board.
To request pastoral counseling, submit an Inmate Request-To-Staff Member (Copout) to the Chaplain.
The same procedure will apply if you wish to participate in the Religious Diet Program.
To get a monthly visit from Prison Visitation and Support (PVS), you must send a request by mail to the address posted on the electronic bulletin board.

FDC Philadelphia is located in downtown Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the corner of 7 and Arch Streets. It is easily accessible by highway and mass transportation. The area is also serviced by the Philadelphia International Airport, Amtrak, and several commercial bus lines.
From New York City and New Jersey: 295 to 30 West. Follow 30 West across the Ben Franklin Bridge and exit at 8th Street. Take a left onto 8th Street and follow to Arch Street. The institution is located at 7th and Arch Streets.
From Delaware and Points South: 95 North, exit at 676 Callowhill Street. Follow the exit ramp to 8th Street and make a left onto 8th Street. Follow 8th Street to Arch Street. The institution is located at 7th and Arch Streets.
From Points North: 95 South, exit at Callowhill Street. Follow Callowhill Street to 6th Street and make a left onto 6th Street. Follow 6th Street to Arch Street and make a right onto Arch Street. The institution is located at 7th and Arch Streets.
From Points West: 76 to 676 East. Exit at 8th Street and follow to Arch Street. The institution is located at 7th and Arch
FDC Philadelphia Visiting Information
Visiting Schedule: Pretrial/holdover inmates will be allowed social visits on a rotating basis depending on the floor you are housed on. You will be allowed up to five (5) visitors, including infants, at a time. Please review the Visiting Schedule posted on the electronic bulletin board for scheduled visiting days. Visits taking place on a weekday are 3 hours and visits on Saturdays are for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Cadre inmates have the opportunity for uninterrupted visiting between 6:15 am – 2:30 pm on their regularly scheduled visiting days. There are no social visits on Tuesdays.

Inmates are not allowed to receive packages from home without prior written approval from the inmate’s unit team or authorized staff member at the institution. The only packages an inmate may receive from home are those containing release clothing and authorized medical devices. However, inmates may receive magazines, hard and paperback books directly from the publisher
FDC Philadelphia Inmate Telephone Calls
FDC Philadelphia inmates are authorized 300 minutes of prepaid phone use January thru October, and 400 minutes, in November and December. Inmates phone lists can contain 30 approved called numbers and calls maximum 15 minutes in length. VAC Communications contracts prison call services to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and FDC Philadelphia. A call costs 21¢ per minute, with 15-minute calls costing $3.15.
