MCC San Diego is a Federal Detention Center run by the Western Regional Office of the US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and holds federal pretrial detainees involved in federal criminal proceedings in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.
San Diego Metropolitan Correctional Center is a multi-story high-rise located in downtown San Diego, California. The San Diego MCC Detention Center building houses 895 administrative security male and female Federal inmates in dormitory-style cell block housing units at multiple custody levels and is one of 3 Federal detention centers in the state of California.
Women’s High-Security Detention Center
MCC, San Diego is located in downtown San Diego, on the comer of Union and F Streets. The trolley stops at American Plaza and Civic Center, both are a few blocks from the MCC. San Diego is served by Greyhound Bus Lines with a terminal located on Broadway and 1st Street. The bus station is two blocks north and two blocks east of MCC San Diego. San Diego is served by Amtrak passenger rail service. The San Diego train station is two blocks north and four blocks west of the institution.
MCC San Diego visiting is conducted on Monday, Thursday, and Fridays, from 4:45 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday, and Federal Holidays from 8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Inmates will be permitted a one hour visit on each of their approved visiting days. Each one hour visit will cost one point, pretrial and holdovers will have a maximum of 8 points a month and Work Cadre/designated inmates will have a maximum of 12 points a month. You will be permitted up to three (3) adult visitors per visit, not including small children. Your visiting day is determined by the fifth digit of your registration number using the odd/even visiting schedule (00000-198 Even, 00001-198 Odd). Inmates with an odd number visit on odd calendar dates and inmates with even numbers visit on even calendar dates.
Pretrial and holdover inmates will be allowed to have only immediate family with the same last name. Immediate family includes mother/father, brother/sister, husband/wife, and children. For those inmates with no immediate family, they will be allowed one friend approved after the completion of a Visitor Information Form.

Inmates are not allowed to receive packages from home without prior written approval from the inmate’s unit team or authorized staff member at the institution. The only packages an inmate may receive from home are those containing release clothing and authorized medical devices. However, inmates may receive magazines, hard and paperback books directly from the publisher
MCC San Diego Inmate Telephone Calls
MCC San Diego inmates are authorized 300 minutes of prepaid phone use January thru October, and 400 minutes, in November and December. Inmates phone lists can contain 30 approved called numbers and calls a maximum of 15 minutes in length. VAC Communications contracts prison call services to the Federal Bureau of Prisons and MCC San Diego. A call costs 21¢ per minute, with 15-minute calls costing $3.15.
